Courses
Jazz/Pom
Jazz is a four week course offered to junior and senior physical education students. Students are introduced to basic movements and technique in jazz. Students learn vocabulary specific to jazz as well as history of the style of dance. Emphasis is also placed on development of flexibility, coordination, and rhythm. Pom is a four week course offered to junior and senior physical education students. Students are introduced to basic pom movements in addition to vocabulary and technique. Emphasis is placed on precision and strong motion.
Dance of the Decades
Dance of the Decades is an eight week course offered to junior and senior physical education students. Students are introduced to movements characteristic of each decade (50's through the 2000's). Students learn vocabulary, history, and fads specific to each decade.
On Broadway
On Broadway is an eight week physical education dance course offered to juniors and seniors. Students learn the overall history of Broadway and then study five to six musicals in depth. Choreography is influenced by movements that are characteristic of the musical. Students also develop an understanding of stage layout and direction.
Tap/Hip Hop
Tap/Hip Hop is an eight week course offered to juniors and seniors. The first four weeks students are introduced to basic Hip Hop choreography and a history of the style of dance. The second four weeks students are introduced to basic movements and technique in tap. Students learn vocabulary specific to tap and tap history. There is a strong emphasis on rhythm and coordination in this class.
